Misunderstood (A Prayer)

What I was I don’t know,
before in my youth a fire
was doused by damp cloth
of insecurities and ire.

I blame no one and none
for things that transpired.
I cry not for myself but for
things I can’t change I’m tired.

The world has never made
sense to me but I try to make
the best of what I can so
from my haze I can awake.

Truth has found me so I
step quick on until my end.
I want to begin again for
I have paid for my sins.

I look at the world so still
and peace I see not at all.
So I breathe deep and quick
I walk and no longer crawl.

What a brief moment I had
where I thought I understood
everything I needed to know
but all has been misunderstood.

What can I do but remain
to fight for my breath calm.
The reality I know I never
could cause anyone harm.

What I believe is that true
are the words of those I love.
And sometimes I feel feelings
from God himself above.

I know hope in ways others
don’t understand or could.
I just keep my head down
Father God I’m misunderstood.
